On Saturday February 5th 2011 ‘the Uncles ventured into the high country to help local builder and Bairnsdale identity Chris Banks celebrate his 50th birthday. Chris has a beautiful country hide away nestled in the Omeo valley on the Mitta Mitta river and had invited friends and family to join him in celebrating his special milestone. The band also wanted to find another act to help turn the night into one to remember, and it was suggested that Lloyd Spiegel be asked. A big lover of the blues Chris jumped at the chance of Lloyd agreeing to make the six hour plus drive from Melbourne up to Chris’s ‘high plains getaway. Demonstrating his generous and unpretentious manner, the planets seemed to align with Lloyd in between touring dates and a special concert for mentor and great friend Dutch Tilders that was to be held on the day after. In addition, a friend of the band ‘Felix Pranjic had just purchased some portable recording gear. Keen to put it to use, the opportunity of testing it out on an artist of Lloyds caliber seemed too great to miss. So apart from an untimely drop of rain, a privileged group of friends in a surreal setting witnessed a great show from an internationally renowned blues performer and local favorites ‘the Uncles. During the night the band was keen to have Lloyd 'share the stage with them, and although best known for his outstanding acoustic guitar musicianship, Lloyd lead the band with some spontaneous jamming on electric and the Uncles 'discovered' the blues. The file you can listen to is a ‘tidbit of what happened next!

Stephan Fidock, a musician and 'raconteur' is also the creator of quality hand made drum kits using select Australian timbers incorporating unique designs. Stephan first made a name for himself playing drums in 'the reels' a quirky and progressive pop band that came to prominence in the late 70's and early 1980's. Often regarded as one of the first 'new wave' groups to have critical success in Australia with a number of songs reaching the top 10. APRA (Australian performing rights association) voted their single "Quasimodo's Dream" number 10 of their top 100 Australian songs of all time. The song has also been covered by a number of other artists most notably Kate Cebrano and Jimmy Little.

Ex Uncle’ Brett Glover is a singer/ songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Raised in the local rural setting of Kilmany he attended Kilmany south primary school. Being one of only 15 students he developed a love of music at an early age and soon began piano lessons while practicing his love of singing and performing. On moving to Sale secondary school Brett took up the alto saxophone and was heavily involved in all aspects of their music program. Over the years that followed he has been involved in a number of different groups from Jazz to heavy rock but his main love of composing and songwriting has always remained.
